Which coloured pencils suit you?
The most important question: do you want to draw dry and layer colours – or paint with water?
Drawing dry and layering
Oil-based coloured pencils lay down colour intensely and evenly. You can layer colours on top of each other and blend them gently – for soft transitions in sketches and colour studies. The set comes with 24, 36, 48, 72 or 120 colours, each in a metal tin.
For portraits there is a coloured pencil set with skin tones: 16 pencils in 8 skin tones, each tone twice.
Painting with water
You apply water-soluble coloured pencils dry. With a damp brush they turn into colour gradients with a watercolour effect; on watercolour paper the colours look especially intense. They come with 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 or 100 colours.
There are also water-soluble rainbow pencils in a set of 12: you apply the colours individually or combined and blend them with water – for gradients in bullet journals, sketches and illustrations.
Pastels
Soft pastels are made for pastel painting and pastel drawing – for art, crafts and school projects. The set comes with 12, 24 or 48 colours.
