Which washi tape suits your project?
Three questions help you choose: which material, how wide – and a single roll or a set.
Paper or transparent?
Paper washi tape is the classic. You can tear it by hand, write or stamp on it and peel it off again without leaving residue – ideal for journals, planners and cards.
Transparent washi tape is made of PET film. The design sits on the surface without a background and looks as if it were printed on photos and coloured paper. It also sticks to glass and plastic. We have the tape 40 mm wide and 60 mm wide in several colours.
In between there is semi-transparent washi tape: paper that lets light through and can still be written on.
Narrow or wide?
- Narrow (1–9 mm) – for fine lines, frames and accents, for example in the set of 20 in three widths (1, 15 and 30 mm).
- 15 mm – the standard width for calendars, journals and presents.
- Wide washi tape (30–60 mm) – for backgrounds, labels and large designs, for example 30 mm vintage washi tape or the transparent rolls at 40 and 60 mm.
Single roll or set?
Single rolls are right when you are looking for a particular design. Sets contain 4 to 60 coordinated rolls; the largest choice is the rainbow set with 60 rolls, and the pastel set with 20 rolls looks particularly calm.

What is washi tape for?
In your bullet journal and calendar, it marks weeks, sections and important days. In scrapbooking, it holds photos and keepsakes without damaging them. When wrapping, it replaces clear sticky tape and is decoration in itself. Together with stickers, whole pages come together from just a few pieces.

What is washi tape?
“Washi” is Japanese and means paper. Washi tape is a thin, decorative paper tape with an easy-release adhesive – for decorating, not for permanent bonding.
Is masking tape the same as washi tape?
In crafting, yes: both names refer to decorative paper tape. Originally, masking tape means the painter’s tape used for decorating.
Can washi tape be peeled off again?
Yes. On paper, glass and smooth surfaces, you can peel it off and stick it down again. On thin or printed paper, peel it off slowly and flat.
Can you write on washi tape?
Paper washi tape can be written on with a ballpoint pen, felt-tip pen or stamp – handy for labels and notes.
